Sylvania Metro Amateur Hockey League

The 99's continue to show improvement and stability with there new coaching staff.  The 99's are 6-5 and have shown there resilience against higher level competition throughout the year.  This last weekend with Port Huron cancelling their Tournament, three scrimmages were set up with Belle Tire and the Columbus Capitals.  First, was Saturday against Belle Tire, and this game was exciting throughout.  Sylvania gave up only one goal during a flurry in front of the goal, and skated hard throughout a 45 minute game.  Even in a loss of 1-0 the Leafs showed they were willing to skate hard and use what they had learned from the new coaching staff.   Sunday was a back-to-back scrimmage with the Columbus Capitals.  The Leafs came out strong in the first game winning 4-0.  The next game was a shootout as Columbus played much better, but the Leafs fought through to win 9-6.  Congratulations to Coltin Winchester and Jay Ostrander for the first Hat tricks of the season, and Cameron Hall notched 7 points on the weekend.  Cody Warner is beginning to warm up and has shown he can play either forward or defense. The 99 Goalies had a great weekend also, showing they could keep the Leafs in any game against good competition.   Congratulaions to Matt Crandall, Jeff Weis, Greg Dewitt, and the entire 99 team on not only a great weekend, but a good start to the season!
