Public relations: Kerri Johnston-sending contract back to Clarion; meeting in Sept about trophies;still need teams for tournament-now that teams are formed should be getting better feedback
Rules and discipline – Ken Krider-now that teams are formed a committee will be picked. Coaches need to be certified by December 31, 2003. USA Hockey does not required neck guard-SMAHL does require players to wear neck guards. Shawnna Easton asked whether the incident of a Coach punching a player had been dealt with yet by the disciplinary board- Don stated it would be as soon as the Committee is selected.
Treasurer: Mark Kennedy – working on collecting commitment fees and monthly payments from teams.
Scheduling: Tom Lopez –working on obtaining additional ice from other arenas
Finance: Mark Korn –– Ice cards are at the printers and should arrive by the end of the week and distributed to the teams. Each player will be charged $20 for the cards. If additional cards are needed, the cost will be $3 per card for an additional printing.
Coaching director : Bob Felser-reports he had only 17 players at tryouts for the 94 team. There is one 95 player on the team –does not meet the mandatory minimum of players per SMAHL rules. Board approved the team he has rostered.
New Business:Mike Mankowski, head coach of the NAHL Icediggers made a presentation on the young program affiliated with the NAHL team. He oultlined the program referring to the information posted on the Icedigger website and stated the overal goal was to provide opportunities to the highest skilled players to play at a higher level of competition with the best available coaching on the same team in the Greater Toledo Area. Emphasis on commitment, skill development and extra practice to develop players in this program to their fullest potential.Icedigger program has applied for an Association in Toledo and
was waiting for approval from the MidAm District.
Joe Reynolds reported he was having an audit of the SMAHL books and records for a cost of $3000-$5000 according to presidential decree. Reynolds was reminded that the SMAHL constitution provides that a member of SMAHL could perform the audit which could be free. Someone from Diane Cook’s firm was willing to perform the audit.
Old Business: Don asked Coach Torchia whether he was interested in participating in the Icedigger program and he stated that he was. Reynolds accused Torchia of self-interest and alleged he mislead parents at the tryouts. Torchia responded that the Travel Board voted in June, before tryouts, that Sylvania rostered teams could wear the Icedigger jerseys and participate in the program following the rules of the SMAHL constitution. In July a motion was made to have a person from SMHAL act as a representative to monitor the Icedigger program. Much discussion with no results.
Joe Reynolds stated that he was a non-voting member on the Tam O’Shanter Board. Jeff Wawrzyniak suggested that Reynolds dual status was a matter of gross conflict of interest according to the SMAHL constitution and should be further investigated. A request was made that the matter be referred to the Disciplinary committee for further investigation.
Motion to adjourn was made by Don, seconded by Ken, meeting adjourned at 9:33 pm
