Meeting Minutes SMAHL – Travel Board

April 7, 2003

Meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by Don Manders.

Present:  Don Manders, Dave Cook, Mark Kennedy, Mark Korn, Lori Heldt, Tom Lopez, Bob Felser, Ken Krider and Kerry Johnston

Guests:  Shawnna Easton, Bill Himmel, Pat Heldt, Scott Kelsey, Todd Koback, Joe Reynolds

March 3, Minutes were distributed and reviewed.  Tom Lopez made motion to approve.  Mark Kennedy – seconded.   Motion approved.

Vice President:  Don Manders suggested every travel team have at least one person present at every travel meeting to keep their team up-to-date and informed on league happenings.  Board hopes to have all tryouts completed by August 1, 2003.

Treasurer:  Mark Kennedy passed out General Profit & Loss reports.  Teams have received refunds where applicable.  Joe Reynolds has a “kick back” check from Hotels used in the MidAm District Tournament held at Tam’O.  All travel teams that had volunteers assist with the Fall Face-Off Tournament will receive a portion of the profits.

Scheduling:  Tom Lopez is checking for additional ice at the Ice House, Monroe and Sports Arena.  House needs to have the travel tryouts by the beginning of June for the mailers.

Equipment:  Lori Heldt is collecting jerseys from the travel teams. Jerseys will be store at Mark Kennedy’s office.

Finance: Mark Korn will check on the “Kroger” fundraiser package and the possibility of bringing back the Simplicity Discount Cards.  Seeking a possible sponsor for the Fall Face-Off Tournament.

Public Relations: Kerry Johnston will be sending out thank-you notes to all those who helped during the MidAm District Tournament.

Rules and Discipline: Ken Krider has not set a committee as of yet.  Letters from parents who which to move players up in age group must be submitted by June 20, 2003.  It was suggested a letter be sent to both the right age and move-up coach.

Coaching Director: Bob Felser is working on various committees for tryouts.  No coaches have been named for the Buckeye League teams – information on the website. 

Old Business: MidAm District Tournament – great success- Joe Reynolds did a great job and hats off to Mark Kennedy for coordinating the volunteers.

New Business: National Tournament – 2005 Midgets – Tom Cline & Dave Fielding to attend meeting on May 12, 2003 to discuss.

Motion by Don Manders to appoint Todd Koback, Asst Coaching Director.  Tom Lopez – seconded. Motion approved unanimously.

Motion by Mark Kennedy to remove Mike Hayes as head coach of ‘89’s based on letter received by the board and one-on-one discussions with the majority of the current team parents. Bill Himmel to be appointed head coach of 1989 team.  Don Manders – seconded.  Vote 6 for  and  3 abstained.  Motion approved.

Motion by Bob Felser to wait one month to decide 1993 coach.  Lori Heldt – seconded.  Motion approved unanimously.

Motion by Don Manders to contribute $1000 from the MidAm District Tournament profits to the 1990 team for their trip to Nationals.  Kerry Johnston – seconded.  Motion approved unanimously.

Motion to adjourn was made by Kerry Johnston.  Todd Koback – seconded.  Meeting adjourned 9:45 pm.
