Meeting Minutes - SMAHL House Board Meeting - September 26, 2000

Meeting called to order at 8:15 p.m. by Steve Habusta

Present:        Habusta, Klee, Puhl, Sorg, Heldt, Kitz, St. John, Gomach, Callan, Henson , Cook

Absent:         None

Old Business

Minutes from the August meeting were approved.

Dr Fick, a local Toledo dentist, will look into getting mouth guards donated from the Ohio State Dental Association.  Steve Habusta to follow up with this matter..

New Business

Based on the turnout of the squirt all-star team consideration for a second squirt all-star.  Both squirt all-star teams may need to split ice times if necessary in order to accommodate this change.  The motion was made by Harold St. John and seconded by Dennis Callan.  The motion passed unanimously.  Bruce Sorg abstained.

A point of emphasis was made that all house all-star players need to attend regular house team practices and games.

Motion to pack used equipment not in saleable condition was passed unanimously.  Equipment is dispersed by USA Hockey to needy organizations.

Motion to eliminate the playoffs passed unanimously.  In its place will be a skills competition for the kids with a format yet to be determined.

Motion to purchase 1000 fundraising cards at $3 each was made by Harold St. John and seconded by Pat Heldt.  Motion passed.  The cards will be given to SMAHL families and some teams can also use as a fund raiser.

Office Reports.

Equipment (Puhl)

All house equipment has been returned and is presently in the possession of current house teams.

New goalie equipment is being ordered for some of the divisions.

Public Relations (Sorg)

Bruce Sorg with work with Sue Appelhans to arrange picture dates in November.

Coaching (St. John)

Concern over the referees was brought up at the coaches meeting.  Steve Habusta will contact John Hirzel and re-emphasize minimum age requirements for the refs or they will not be paid.

Associate and Intermediate clinics were conducted.  The IP coaching clinic will be October 21st.

Secretary (Klee)

Background checks have been turned into Diane Cook.  These checks will be summarized and given to Harold St. John and Diane Cook.

Scheduling (Heldt)

The end of the season will be moved back into the second week of March to accommodate a second Squirt All-Star team.. 

November ice schedules will be out during early October.

Finance (Callan)

4 sponsors are still needed for this season.

20 sets of jerseys have been completed to date.

Rules (Gomach)

Based on the first few games of the year, there has been a lot of concern in the Pee Wee division about checking from behind.  Bruce Gomach will review with teams the seriousness of this issue.

Finance (Kitz)

Tom Kitz presented the proposed budget for this year based on the final numbers. 

 Exec. Finance (Cook)

A copy of each month’s ice schedule is needed to balance statement from Tam-O-Shanter.

New Business
